Terry Gajraj

Terry Gajraj is Guyana's most charismatic and distinguished singer. Since his first record was released in 1990, he has gone on to release eighteen more albums and has had number one records on all the Chutney charts in the Caribbean, North America and Europe. The 1990's has undoubtably been his decade, and the new mellinium promises even more great things to come. Here are some brief highlights of an eventful career.

With 19 albums and over 200 songs to his credit, he's recorded more songs than any other Guyanese singer.

He is one of Guyana's most versatile singers and does everything from Bhagans, Hindi, Pop, Chutney, Soca, Reggae and Ballads. The ballads on his #1 selling "Sweet Love Songs" were a sensational success.

Most widely travelled artiste doing annual tours through the Caribbean, Canada, USA, England, Suriname and Holland. One of his most prestigious shows was at Wembley Stadium in London.

The only Chutney singer from Guyana to perform with ALL the top names in the Soca/Calypso arena, from the Mighty Sparrow to "Hot Hot" Arrow. One of his recent tours was with celebrated Indian performers Babla and Kanchan.

Terry has been the only Chutney singer invited to represent Guyana at all the major carnivals in the world, including Trinidad (Spektakula Tent), Miami, Caribana (Toronto) and Nottinghill (London).

Apart from being a prominent singer, Terry stands out from the crowded singing field 'cause he's also a musician who plays drums, keyboards and guitar. He has composed and played all of the music for some of his songs.

Having spent his boyhood days in the quiet contryside of Guyana and having lived in the USA for over ten years, Terry has the charms of a country boy and the city smarts of a New Yorker, enabling him to movbe his career in the right direction and captivating his FANS as well.

Unlike the (local) regular Rafi, Mukesh and Lata type singers/imitators, Terry also writes his own original lyrics on patriotic songs about his Country, Love, Culture, Current Events and Indo-Caribbean heritage.

Terry is his own boss, Manager, Agent etc.. He is an independent performer who prefers the freedom and personal touch of working with the people. He is the only singer who has worked with all the major Chutney Promoters, Record Execs., Produccers and Bands in the North American Indo-Caribbean market.
