Roy Cape is known to some as The Duke
Ellington of Calypso Music, and to others as Calypso’s
Cape Crusader. He is the Musical Director and Band Leader
of the Roy Cape All Stars Band, the current top ranking
music band, in the Republic of Trinidad & Tobago
and the best Calypso Band in the world.
Since its inception almost two decades
ago, Roy Cape All Stars continues to climb the ladder
of success.
Titles are not easy to come by, but
Cape’s struggle for excellence and professionalism
has always been the unwritten creed of the band. His
devotion to music is seen as a gift, a blessing he passes
on to the group’s younger band members.
The sixteen member music band is famous
for the exquisite quality of the phrasing, harmony and
tonality of the five piece horn section, first and second
trumpets; alto and tenor saxes and trombone.
This horn section, the meanest in the
world has helped to earn the band the distinctive title
‘The Best Calypso Band in the World’.
For
twenty odd years saxophonist Roy Cape and his dedicated
band of musicians, set the standard for Calypso Music
as the resident band at Calypso’s Spektakula Forum
in his native Trinidad & Tobago.
